The carbon brush is a sliding contact body that conducts current. The function of the carbon brush is to rub against the surface of the generator slip ring and play a conductive role. It is to introduce the rotor current required for the operation of the motor into the rotor coil through the connecting piece on the slip ring. The fit and smoothness of the brush and the connecting piece, and the size of the contact surface affect its life and reliability.

Precautions when installing and using carbon brushes

1. Grind the arc surface of the carbon brush to make it basically consistent with the commutator or collector ring;
2. The carbon brushes work within the surface of the commutator or the collector ring, and cannot be close to the edge of the collector ring;
3. Appropriate clearance should be reserved between the carbon brush and the inner wall of the brush holder. After the carbon brush is installed in the brush holder, it is advisable that the carbon brush can move freely up and down.
